Alfred University MFA students to exhibit at prestigious Hartsook Gallery, NYC
The Jane Hartsook Gallery, in New York City, will present Soft Logic, an exhibition of work by the 2025 cohort of Alfred University MFA candidates from The New York State College of Ceramics (NYSCC) as they approach graduation. The exhibition will run from Jan. 9, 2025 through Feb. 14.
Greenwich House Pottery and the Jane Hartsook Gallery recently announced they “are proud to feature the work of this new generation of international artists from the preeminent program at Alfred University.”
The artists:
Erin Berry is a Canadian artist working with ceramic, metal and plastics extruded through the tube of digital technology. Berry received her BFA from Concordia University in Montreal and is now an MFA candidate at NYSCC.
Seowoo Choi is a Korean ceramic artist with ceramic-based materials and mixed media. She received her BFA in 2020 from the Dongduk Women’s University in Digital Art & Craft and completed her MFA program in 2023 at the Hongik University in Ceramic Art. Currently an MFA 2025 candidate at NYSCC, she has exhibited in Seoul, South Korea and New York.
Sophie Gibson, currently pursuing her MFA in ceramic art at NYSCC, graduated in 2017 from the Brown University/Rhode Island School of Design Dual Degree Program with a BFA in Illustration and a BA in History. For the past seven years she has lived and worked as an educator in Charlottesville, VA, where she has shown work locally at the Bridge PAI, Mcguffey Art Center, Studio IX, Second Street Gallery, Visible Records, and Chroma Projects.
Michelle Seo is an interdisciplinary artist working with a focus in the ceramic arts. She received her BFA in 2015 from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with an emphasis in painting and drawing, and is currently a 2025 MFA candidate at NYSCC. She has exhibited in Chicago, Los Angeles, San Pedro, Long Beach, and New York.
Trae Story is a visual artist from St. Paul, MN currently pursuing his MFA in ceramics at NYSCC. His primary material affinities include ceramics, silicone, and steel. From 2018-2020, Trae attended Montana State University as a special student, and Colorado State University as a post-baccalaureate. In 2018 he received his BFA from St. Cloud State University.
Eva Tellier is a French Australian visual artist who primarily works with clay, fibers and organic materials. Born in France, she moved to Montreal, where she completed a BFA at Concordia University in 2020. She is currently pursuing her MFA at NYSCC.
Alvaro Villa is a first-generation Mexican-American from Oak Cliff, Dallas, TX. From a young age, he felt a profound connection to the moon, a guiding force that shaped his spirituality and artistic journey. This connection was his first glimpse into the world of witchcraft, which continues to inspire his life and creative work. He earned a BFA in ceramics, sculpture, and painting from the University of North Texas and is currently pursuing an MFA in ceramic art at NYSCC.
Anna Wagner is a ceramic artist currently pursuing their MFA in ceramic art at NYSCC. They received their BFA in ceramics from the University of Central Arkansas in 2020. Wagner has exhibited their work in many national exhibitions, such as the Craven Arts Council and the Foundry Art Center, and was published in Ceramics Monthly in May 2021. They were a short-term resident at the Red Lodge Clay Center in 2021 and worked as an Adjunct Ceramic Professor at Northwestern Michigan College in 2022.
